1. How do I know that the latest information will show?

If changes are applied to the information stored on the central file server, the workstation program automatically detects this and performs a corresponding update. Only new or amended files are copied down to each workstation and these files are highly compressed, reducing network traffic and storage requirements to an absolute minimum.

2. How easy is it to create information?

Carrying out updates to the system is a very straightforward process. First, any required new images are created using a graphics editing toolkit, (e.g Paintshop Pro, Photoshop, CorelPaint). Repetitive frames, such as visitor welcomes, can be produced quickly using a standard template as a basis with fresh text added over it keyed-in in ASCII format from a Word-Processor.

3. Can I use a Paint or Presentation Package that I am already familiar with?

You can use any Graphics package which will save or export your images in a standard format, (e.g. BMP, TIF, JPG, etc).

4. Will it overload our Network?

No. Only new or amended files are copied down to each workstation and these files are highly compressed JPEGs, reducing network traffic and storage requirements to an absolute minimum.

5. Can I play audio clips?

Each image can be associated with an audio (.WAV) file within the schedule. This audio clip will be played each time the image is displayed.

6. We only use Windows 2000, is that sufficient?

Yes, it supports Windows 2000 and XP.

7. We already have an Intranet, why would we need this?

Companies who operate an Intranet system within their organisation can combine the operation of the two systems, vastly increasing the effectiveness of both. By using individual frames to "headline" an announcement or feature article stored on the Intranet Web Server, the operator can switch to the preferred Web Browser program and load the relevant page by simply clicking on the 'More Information' icon.

8. Can we use our existing PC’s?

Yes. Designed for installation on networked PCs, the Interchange InStaNet System takes advantage of existing PC equipment and networking infrastructures.

9. We don’t have an Intranet, is it still useful?

Yes! It operates on its own! Beginning when the Screen Saver function activates on your PC, the information is scrolled sequentially one screen at a time, each image separately timed and controlled.

10. Some of our staff don’t have access to PC’s. How will they see the information?

To deploy the Interchange InfStaNet System for staff working outside the PC network, a low cost cable TV installation is all you need. TV monitors on the factory floor, in reception, the board room, rest rooms, training and conference areas can all have tailored communication messages broadcast over a number of parallel channels.

11. Can we send different information to different locations?

Yes. Once the necessary images are created, the schedule, which controls when and how they are displayed, is prepared. Each separate location may access the schedule file on the main server, or a different schedule file can be created for each location, which can be edited centrally or at the location. Once this has been done, the image and schedule files are placed on to the host server using a simple utility program which converts the image format and places them in the nominated location.

12. Can we play Video?

Yes, MPEG and AVI compression are supported.

13. Can anyone update the information?

Information can be updated in a number of different ways.

1. Using a dedicted editor who collects, collates and creates the graphic images and then schedules them to show as a magazine.

2. Allowing individual departments to create their own graphic images in any format, then pass them on to a System Manager who schedules them into the magazine.

3. Preparing a fixed schedule into which the graphic images are slotted by nominated departments, using pre-determined file names.

The method you choose depends upon your company’s culture. Methods 1 and 2 are recommended if you want your magazine to have a definite style and control. Method 3 allows more freedom of information, but less control of the quality of that information.

14. Besides supplying the Software, how else can Interchange help us?
